Something I have struggled with in my life is balance. Balance between responsibilities, friends, family, and time for myself. My days are filled with work or school, while my evenings and weekends are filled with family and friends. I have started to feel like I’m continually running on a treadmill, tiring myself out but getting nowhere. I found that at the end of the week, I was exhausted and would have to jump right into the new week, feeling stressed already. I was making sure to show up for everyone else but me.
I never thought that showing up for yourself was that important. I figured my body would catch up eventually and a few good nights of sleep would do the trick. I soon found out that wasn't the case. Showing up for yourself requires much more intentionality than thinking that you will just adapt. It requires being a little selfish and taking some time when you need it, only for you. If you feel that you’re trapped in the middle of a whirlwind, take your next day off to refocus and center your mind. Do something that makes you happy and reduces any stress. Take a hike, do some yoga, get a massage, read a good book, workout, sit by the pool, even go for a weekend getaway if that's what you need. You’ll be amazed at how much a day, just focused on you, can help you feel more relaxed and prepared for the week ahead. Make showing up for yourself this week a priority. You deserve it.
