the one you feed

March 26, 2024

Almost two years ago now, my grandma had a heart attack. From then on she needed some help around the house and I became her caretaker. We ordered some Zox; one for her, one for myself, and one for my grandfather, each to remind us to stay positive throughout my grandmother’s sickness. I chose ‘The One You Feed’ to remind me not to give in to despair or grief in these hard times, and my Zox has now seen me through a lot of struggle in my life.

My grandmother has since been diagnosed with cancer, gone through chemotherapy treatment that her body rejected, and passed nearly a year ago. All throughout my Zox was a reminder that I needed to be strong for her, and has become a constant reminder that she’s always with me. My Zox didn’t end its journey there, though.

Almost six months ago now I, myself, was diagnosed with cancer and had to start chemotherapy treatment. Every day is a struggle and I never want to go to an infusion appointment, but my Zox reminds me, once again, that the cancer is a dark wolf within me, and it certainly isn’t the one I want to feed.
